SCIS-Download problem

Posted by bhs on October 14, 2010

Need a reminder on a few steps in the above and if anyone has a step by step instructions sheet I would be grateful. I have an old one.
Usually my clerical assistant accessions resources, heaven help if she retires. I have processed resources on a few occasions but not for awhile.
The step I got up to today was -  successfully created an order with file usmarc.dat. from scis.
Went into H1 G2 Load Marc Records.
I remember I was advised to open drive ‘C $ Client V’ couldn’t locate. Can remember selecting {B}ulk download but was only given {S}ingle disk entry choice. (don’t use disks these days)
Am I way off track?

Also in my rush somehow downloaded 6 resources from an old order which means I now have them as multiple copies which is wrong. I know we have been told not to delete in General Resources but wondering in this circumstance is it ok to dispose instead  so I don’t waste the assigned barcodes as they can’t be used until item is disposed at stocktake.

Oh boy think it must be the BER library upheaval playing with my head. Still an ongoing process. Painting done last holidays. Carpeting week 7 of this term. Had gym work out everyday in week 10 moving and cleaning. Yesterday about 20 books soaked and new carpet saturated when roof sprung a leak. Water filled half a garbage bin during day. Today as  i was teaching littlies the library filled with fine white brick dust and IWB shaking as drilling went on outside to repair the 6cm wide crack down one wall where the birds fly in.  Painters will be back to paint other walls when major crack is fixed. This is not to mention over half the library collection is housed in cardboard boxes with Dewey labels. Surprisingly the kids have got use to these and i hear them saying go to the 796 box which is closest to the heater not shelf !I envy all those who moved into a new library. We have our 50th celebration tomorrow and will be more than happy if the big wigs from the department brow
se through my 50 year old building !

First the extra copies that you’ve downloaded. Go into General Resources get the book up and select C = Copies. Check that the barcode & accession number are for  the one that you’ve accidentally added, now select D = Delete. You’ll be left with the Copies information for the real book. Escape & continue deleting the Copies information for all the 6 books that were accidentally added. Once you’ve finished that go to B4 P4 (Delete Unheld). This will remove all traces of the accidental copies.

You appear to have found an old scis download, that’s how you uploaded the 6 resources from an older order. I would go back into SCIS and save the order that you processed again (it will be the one at the top of the list, with the date & time that you processed it). When you save it take careful note of WHERE you save it to. Some people save to the desktop others to the C;drive or to a USB. The important thing is to know where you saved it so that you can go back to the same place when you upload the data. If you save to a place & you are given the message that a file called usmarc.dat already exists, then overwrite it, i.e. replace it with the one you are saving.

Now when you go into H1 G2 Load Marc records your source of the file is the place where you saved it, i.e. the desktop or C:drive or USB.
