Periodicals

Posted by bhs on February 27, 2010

My Library assistant usually establishes catalogue records for periodicals through periodicals in OASIS. We are subscribing to a few new ones this year and i have never created an original record. We decided to try donwloading record from SCIS for Australian Personal Computer. It downloaded into General Resources and record appears similar to single record for a book and no information is in periodicals. Should i have just used SCIS info to create record in periodicals or is there some way to migrate info from GR record to PER?

Also, we have some periodicals where ISSUES is on the menu and others where we see COPIES. I am presuming they were entered into OASIS in different ways. Neither of us here knows why this appears this way. Any hints?

If it’s a long one to answer please direct me to best OASIS manual to read up on.

Hi Kathy,
Copies of Periodicals entered into OASIS, indeed come up as Issues.

Why?
Resources with an ISBN have Copies.

Resources with ISSN have Issues [this is where periodicals fit - they have
an ISSN].
