ClickView Download

Posted by bhs on August 23, 2010

I’m about to begin experimenting with downloading SCIS records for our ClickView collection and am a bit confused about the best way to do it.
When I go into SCIS Special Orders I have the option of downloading individual secondary updates or the whole collection of 1628 records – if I choose the whole collection does that mean I’ll also get records for Primary ClickView videos that we don’t have?
I know it sounds like a dumb question – maybe someone should write ‘ClickView for Dummies’.

Just prior to downloading the SCIS records for ClickView Digital Library – I was going to download
only the secondary updates but then i noticed they are only from term 3 2009 and I want earlier
records as well.
I also notice that the full file lists 1,628 records – does this cover all the ClickView items from
2008?
Obviously it covers more than the latest updates.
I’m debating whether to wait for SCIS to provide separate Primary & Secondary lists, or whether
it’s better to download the lot now & have the tedious task of removing all the Primary files – how
hard is it?
Advice from experienced ClickView users appreciated…

Well we’ve started. Yes you can do the download of all 1628 items if you want. We  tested this
Friday & the order processed quickly but we have opted not to download this way, so we just left it.
A search in the OPAC … searched – Keyword ClickView – by title & GMD Video resording & it
went to a ClickView List of 1400 entries (not 1628?) starting with entries tagged for Primary9back
to 2004)… and then I skipped through till Secondaries started at 239 & went through to 1380.
However when I opened a few of the Primaries, I found they were also tagged Secondary so may be good
for Yr 7&8 or even more.

We tried the tick the title option for a page of titles (25-26) & using the print option then pasted
these into an order (the print showed broken lines between each SCIS number but this can be deleted
when pasting it into the order. Then we ran the order & treated them like Websites – “virtual”
Barcode starting at C00001+  & blank Accession numbers.  We did a couple of batches in the hour we
had this morning.

I have a SAO on Return to Work after a shoulder operation so working in batches of a page at a time
seems to suit us as it is not too much typing in a session & also we are not getting over 1600 items
to add local data & feel pressured to get it finished asap. So we will plug away in batches of 25.
The RTW conditions have made this seem more feasible in our current circumstances.

I still have to find out why there is a discrepancy between 1400 & 1628… but we’ve made astart.

SCIS -Double download error

Posted by bhs on June 22, 2010

I am hoping someone can tell me how to deal with this problem.  My library assistant accidentally downloaded a whole bunch of records from SCIS yesterday that had already been downloaded.  Now these records have been allocated barcodes and Oasis tells us there are multiple copies of these books.  What do we do?  We only have one copy of the books.  Is it as simple as deleting the extra record?  Probably not? We would appreciate any advice.

Yes Monique, it is a “simple” as deleting the extra records BUT make sure that you are ONLY deleting the Copies information, NOT the whole record. You must only delete when the bottom third of the page is showing, i.e. the Copies information, never delete when you only have the top 2/3rds showing.

What you do is in General Resources get the resource up on the screen, select C = Copies & make sure that it is the one that you want to delete (you don’t want to delete the real one by mistake) by making sure it is the barcode/accession number that you want to remove. Select D = Delete & then C= Confirm. Now press Escape and continue with the rest of your “extra” copies from the download. Once you’ve completed this you need to go back to the OASIS Main Menu and select B4 P4 (Delete Unheld) & then C = Confirm.

Overdue calculation

Posted by bhs on March 2, 2010

In B2 Circulation E2 Returns there is now an option relating to calculating the number of days an item is overdue:

<F2>O/D CALC[ON]
If showing as [ON] the system will calculate the number of days an item is overdue, if showing as [OFF] the system does not calculate the number of days an item is overdue, will show as 0 Days overdue.
